Episode 100

#100: Rest Is A Gift From God

In honor of the podcast’s 100th episode, Jeanette opens up about the unexpected, monumental, and even terrifying decision she recently made for her life and her God-owned business as a result of her recent conversations with God.

It is easy to lose sight of God's desire for us to slow down in the midst of our hectic daily routines. Some of us may regard rest as a lack of productivity, when in fact it is one of the gifts that God bestowed upon us from the beginning. He gave us the Sabbath to rest, renew, and refocus so that we could serve Him better. Jeanette talks about how God reminded her that she was not keeping one of His Ten Commandments.

Tune in and be inspired as Jeanette puts her full trust in God, and even though she’s scared, she will listen and OBEY, because that’s what a good steward of God does.

“God said: Look I need you to trust Me.”

“So I am going to obey (God)... and to be quite honest with you, it scares me more than anything.”

“Rest is not a form of absence; it's a form of renewal. It's a form of that fertile void where things start to grow on the inside.”

“I know God is gonna show up cause He always does. I know God's gonna make this business His business, cause it already is. And when I submit and surrender the things that I love to God and give it to Him, He always makes them better.”

In this episode:

  • The importance of listening to God when He calls
  • How to be a good steward of God by obeying and trusting Him
  • A reminder that rest is a gift from God
  • When you surrender things to God, He makes them better

Happy 100th episode to unapologetically unstoppable and in this episode, I've got some really big news and not what you think for our 100th episode. Do you want God's plan for your life? Do you want to discover your calling? Do you want to build a business that's aligned with God's will? Hey, girl, hey, I'm Jeanette. Business and faith coach. After a decade in the military, the Air Force said, See you later. And I had to find my true calling. Want to know how God directed my life from a cyber security engineer to a faith of business mentor? In this podcast, I'll teach you how to start a business. How to know your business is God's calling, monetization techniques, how to trust the Holy Spirit and how to set boundaries. So listen to His word alone, ready to become unapologetically unstoppable.

Hey, girl, hey, oh, my goodness, I have a lot to talk to you about? Because God's been talking to me. And I want you to hear it first. So you know commandment? I haven't been obeying one. Yep, that's right. I have not been a being one of the 10 commandments. And I'm not gonna tell you which one it is yet. I'll tell you a little bit later. But the way God works with me is he likes to tell me things. Like, almost like, he makes me call something out. So that way, he knows that I know what is true. And what is not to show me that I know, the actual truth. He's not trying to show me like, in a mean way. He's just trying to alert me to things that I have been doing that are wrong. And so when God calls me to do things that are correct, instead, it's, it's hard. It's hard for me because I'm not old. But I like to do my own thing. I like to be stuck in my old ways. I like to do things my way. I don't want to do things God's way or anybody else's way. To where I was like, when I was in the military, people were like, Are you sure you're in the military? Yourself rebellious? Yeah, I am in the military. But I'm the one that's in charge here because I don't take direction well, and God told me that he wants me to do something. And it sounds insane. And I don't want to do it. But I'm going to, because I've learned that when I trust God, things happen. When I trust God's word, things happen. And they're not going to happen the way I want them to. Even though I, I assume my wills lined up with his will. But this is his business. But it's very hard for me to want to do things his way because sometimes I think I know better. He doesn't mean like, No, God, I actually know what I'm doing here. I actually know how to like I, you taught me all these things. You put all these people in my life to show me these things. I might do things my way. Or we get into the pickle. And we're like, oh, I need help get out of this pickle. And God said, Look, I need you trust me. Six months ago, I started this business, Jeanette Peterson LLC. I had been in business with a partner for almost two years, and it was going then she had to step out for personal reasons. And I was like, Okay, you're gonna go do that thing. I'm gonna keep doing me. I'm gonna keep doing Jeanette Peterson LLC instead of the joint business. And it was kind of built out of desperation to continue my mission. I 100% believe that God put on my heart that I'm supposed to tithe a million dollars. I don't know how or when that sounds insane. But I'm going to that's what's going to happen. So I was like, Okay, well, if I'm going to tie this million dollars, I would start hustling, I start getting out there. And that's one thing that I am good at is hustle. Ever since I can remember. I've been popping my collar. No, I'm just kidding. I've been having more than one job. Even in the military. I had more than one main job. I was the booster club president or the five six president or on some special organization team with my real job, volunteering, doing something else. And before that, it was I literally had two jobs. I've always done a lot of things. And I don't know if it's like a trauma response. It could be because the economy kind of trauma, but I like keeping busy. I like keeping busy because I feel like when I'm busy. I'm proving my worth. When I'm busy, you know that I'm doing things that people are in awe almost. They're like, Oh, how are you doing so much? And I'm like, Oh, girl, it's so easy. All you have to do is be insane. Don't sleep right lots and lots of checklist and whatever. That's not actually how it works. But I was I felt like that is what I knew. And that is what I should do. And I don't think that I should do those things as much anymore after God reminded me of the commandment that I have been breaking. And that commandment is keep the Sabbath day holy. God likes to work in numbers. He's a numerical god. I'm gonna talk a Numerology here something weird. I'm talking about like actual like in the biblical patterns that are presented. So on the sixth day, He made man and he said, Oh, this is good. This is good. I made everything else I made the heavens the earth, I made the firmament in the heavens, I made light, I made everything I mean animals, and we plant I'm gonna rest I'm gonna rest. And I have not been doing that. I was listening to a pastor, his name is Pastor Michael time he pastors at transformation church, if you ever have a chance to watch them online on the YouTubes, I sincerely recommend checking him out. He's awesome if you don't know who he is. And he had a series called cuffed. Like, when he says cuffed he means like tied to, there's like, there's it was like a six part series, one was like cuff to cake, like your, your cuff to food. And then the one that I watched, I'd haven't watched any of the series except for this one video. And it's called cuffed to constant. And when he said those words, cuff to concept, I had like this, it was like almost a gut punch of being like, oh, oh, that's me. That's me. I'm kept constant. That is me. That's me. Even in this business. I'm like doing the podcast three days a week, I'm putting out all these offers and doing all these things in trying to write a book at the same time and homeschool my kids and be a good mom. Oh, and we're in like, competition dance. So we've got like, all these dance days, we've got to be there for oh, and I'm gonna be a budding speaker. So I'm writing a speech and presenting it and cuffed to constant cuffed to constant that is me. And after I watched the two and a half hours, or whatever the sermon was, it was a long one. But you know, it has long sermons, and they're worth every minute, honestly. Yeah. I mean, come on. Y'all be watching 15 episodes of The Office or whatever. But you don't want one two hour sermon. Okay, don't judge me, whatever. So I watched the whole thing. And I was like, God is telling me this at the end of June, next month is seventh. On the seventh day he rested. And in the speech, Michael Todd was saying that after he, he goes on sabbaticals every summer, it is a rhythm of rest that he has put into transformation church. And people in the church are also going on two months sabbaticals and all these things. I'm going on sabbatical. It's not gonna be two months, it's gonna be one month, but I'm going to be gone for the entire month of July. So what is Jeanette gonna do, I have no idea. I don't know how to not be constant. I don't know how to not be thinking about this business. I don't know how to not be thinking about all the things that I need to do all the time. I think that's why God is hungry to do this now. Because it's like, in the middle of like, I don't know, the season of life that I'm in where I'm always doing things. But I do think that because God owns this business. And just because my name is on the front door does not mean that I'm making the decisions in here. It's all God. It's all God's decisions that I can make these kind of choices. I can't, if I am going to be a good steward of the gifts, he's given me this business, and the team that is supporting this business, and the people and the funds and all the things. I have to first be a steward of God. So when God calls me to have a season of rest, I know that he's either going to tell me to rest and asked me for his obedience. Or he's going to make me to rest in the form of sickness or injury or something where I'm unable to do my job. I don't want that. I don't want that at all. So I'm going to obey. I'm going to obey and to be quite honest with you, it scares me more than anything. This business is six months old, and he's telling me to take a month off. I just hired a person and he's telling me take a month off. Okay, God Okay, so that means the business is still going to run because this is not my business it's got, and it doesn't need me to run, it needs God. And so I will be praying for this business every day, but I will not be showing up every day. I mean, you'll see my stories, because that's where I live, I'm supposed to do my gratitudes, because that is a rhythm that I have created for myself. And that's just how I live my life. But, um, yeah, so we're gonna rest in July. And I hope that this motivates you to think about where you need to rest in your life and in your business, what things have the Holy Spirit been bringing up to you, they you need to calm down on the you need to rest, the shake a break, because rest is not a form of absence. It's a form of renewal. It's a form of that fertile void, where things start to grow on the inside. I know that during this next month that God is going to reveal to me something big for this business.

Whenever I have the space to create and think that's when things just start flowing through me. And I haven't had that because I've been in the masculine Grind Session of creating SOPs and structure and doing all this stuff. And I'm not saying that it's bad, it is good, because now I can take time off after a six month business, and know that my team's got this. But I'm scared. I'm scared. I'm not scared for the business. I'm scared for me. To be quite honest with you. I don't know how many books I'm going to read. I don't know how many puzzles I'm going to do. I don't know what my life is going to look like at the end of this. But I do know that God is going to show up because he always does. I know the guy is going to make this business his business because it's already his and that when I submit and surrender the things that I love to God and give them to him, he always makes them better. So that's what I'm doing. I'm giving my business to God for a month. And he's gonna let me take the reins back over, we shall see. And we'll go from there. I hope you guys have a great summer and a Happy Fourth of July. Wow, that was so good. So I know that you know somebody that also needs to hear that. So share this episode, leave a review. And I would love if you could watch my free workshop at Jeanette peterson.com/missing piece. I'll see you guys over on the Grahams at Jeannette dot Peterson bye
