Self-leadership to take responsibility for your actions and the changes you want in your life - Unapologetically Unstoppable: Building Kingdom Businesses with the Holy Spirit

Episode 83

#83: Why Self-leadership is The Most Important Type of Leadership

Do you ever wonder why you do the same things over and over even when you know some of them are not beneficial? And do you ever wonder how you can change that? To stop repeating the pattern and get the results you want, you can (and should) simplify the steps to changing your habits. Today Jeanette shares with you the small, yet impactful, changes she has planned to implement and why she thinks doing the same will help you too. Tune in!

All of us have that one thing we struggle with. And maybe, your attempt to change it has been to create a strategy of how to go from point A to point B. On paper that is exactly what you need but let's be real! You know that in real life that strategy often fails, that's why it's a struggle, right? So in this episode, to take full responsibility for your actions and possible solutions, Jeanette proposes a different, and much simpler approach that is also more sustainable.

There is a time and place for every activity and making space in your calendar for all the things you want to do is the easy part, what is difficult, as we said, is to follow through. So what if we start by compromising on one thing that will eventually snowball into something huge. Sometimes that little thing can be as simple as drinking enough water and getting enough rest. So let's dive in and get the ball rolling!

In this episode:

  • Acknowledging your struggle
  • Identifying possible causes
  • Identifying a course of events
  • Reverse engineering the struggle to identify the next right step.

Hey girl, hey, oh my gosh, I feel like I have been slacking a lot. And it really only boils down to one thing, self leadership. I mean, I was in the military for over a decade, and I still have problems waking up with my alarm clock, I am so serious. And I wish I wasn't. I'm one of those people with 15 alarms, it's so hard for me to wake up and get my proper sleep. I don't know what is the issue. But I need to self lead myself better, to self lead a team better. In the military, I feel like they're always throwing leadership down your throat showing you what to do putting you through all these classes. So I understand the technical reasons and technical things of how to be a good leader. But the implementation is lacking even with me. So the self leadership starts with me, right. So there is something that I do do every day, which is my gratitude, I do my gratitude every single day. And I do my prayers every single day. And then that's where everything ends. I try and get my water in, I try and do my workouts every single day, I try and do all these other things. But I really need to be better about going after the things that I know God has for me. And this starts with self leadership. I feel like when I am waking up early, doing my Bible study on time, drinking my water, eating properly, my life goes great. When I'm leaving myself a first. Everything else follows everything else in my life is great. My kids aren't acting crazy. They they like they feel when I am a steady person and the steady thing in their lives. They can depend on me and they're excited about it. They're ready for all the things. And when I lead them, or when something happens, they look to me for that leadership. Right. So this is what I'm going to do. I encourage you guys to also do this because we are human beings. I don't know about you, but I literally have ADHD. This is not like a thing that people say I am diagnosed, I've been diagnosed for years. But I need to make sure that I'm drinking my water and going to bed on time. I really feel like if I drink my water, go to bed on time, it will be easier for me to lead myself better every single day. I have been really trying hard at this three podcasts a week thing. And some weeks I'm failing. I'm not gonna lie. Some weeks, it's two. Some weeks, it's three, some weeks, it's four, because I got a bonus episode with a like a guest. But honestly, I'm failing it. And so I really am encouraging you and myself to lead ourselves better. Like, what is that one thing in your life that you were like, I really should be doing this better. I really, I can do this, I am capable of doing this better. I'm just not doing it better. What is that thing in your life? Because I feel like everybody has one of those things. And just drink your water. Wake up early on time. Get your sleep in. And let me know how that goes for you. Because I feel like once we get those core things done, these are things that we need, like for life, like water, obviously sleep, yes, rest. And I really want to say like eating our vegetables and our fruits and all the things right. So when we do things like that, we're more likely to be able to do the rest of the things that we need to do. So that's what I'm going to do this week, I'm going to focus 100% on getting my water getting my sleep. And you know, the only thing that bugs me about getting my sleep is that that bugs me it's the thing that makes it a challenge is that I am a people pleaser. I like to please people and the number one person in my life that I want to please, every single day is my husband. And he's a night owl. He's a night owl. And we have this thing where we go to bed at the same time. No matter what we're going to both go to bed at the same time. So I want to please Him by staying up late watching these stupid shows that he loves, even though I don't care anything about them. But it's because I get to spend time with Him and be with him and I love him right. But honestly, it's not doing neither one of us any good. And I'm older than him. So I'm tired y'all I'm tired. I wake up late. I go to sleep late and that eat like crap because I'm tired. I get more caffeine I just try and shovel it in. It's a bad cycle. It's a bad cycle and to get off that roller coaster. I legit want to get off the Red Bull. I mean, I love it. I really do. I have an issue, I have a problem, I have a problem, but I need to stop drinking so much caffeine. I think that if I drink all the water that I'm supposed to be drinking, and I go to sleep, when I'm supposed to go to sleep, he's just gonna, we're just gonna have to talk about it, we're gonna have to make a plan, we're gonna have to like get with it to go to sleep early, get the girls in bed on time, then maybe it'll work out. I'm going to give you guys an update pretty soon, but please let me know what that thing is for you that you're going to work on. Because mine is getting the podcasts out three times a week. And in order to do that I need to lead myself well, in order to do that. I need to drink my water and go to sleep on time. So simple, right? So simple. Drink water and go to sleep on time. Who knew that that could be the secret to success of life? Drink water, go to sleep on time. Okay, that's all I'm gonna do. I'll see you guys later.
